Needing to flee your country for safety is a frightening and monumental task to undertake. We are here so you don’t have to face this alone. We understand first hand the practical and emotional hurdles you are facing and are here to offer a helping hand to ease the process and soften your landing.
We know this isn’t an ordinary move. You are doing it under duress while new and more dangerous policies against you and your family are enacted regularly. In addition, most of us have never moved between countries before. It’s not just a new location, but a new culture and with new laws and policies to navigate.
Below is a list of things we can offer guidance or support with. Even the basics like grocery shopping can be overwhelming in a culture new to you. We are here for those little things and to connect you to people with greater expertise for the big things like finding the right Visa and a place to live.
If you are in the research stage and you can’t find what you need on our website please join one of our weekly live Q & A calls to get your questions answered. If the calls offered don’t work for your time zone, please reach out to us at transactionrefuge@proton.me and we will schedule something that will fit better within your waking hours.
Examples of things we can help with:
- Connections to visa agents to help you navigate the bureaucracy of visa applications
- Detailed information about local schooling options and how inclusive they are of trans students
- Connecting to community
- Suggestions for medical and dental providers
- Understanding the layout of the city and what different neighborhoods have to offer
- Help finding where to go to buy what you need from groceries to furniture
- Help navigating setting up paying utilities
- Help getting your phone setup
- How to get around
- An invite to dinner and a listening ear when it all just feels like too much
We also host regular in person events such as monthly socials. We’ve held potlucks, holiday parties, karaoke and craft nights.
