You Deserve Safety
We are here to help! With the growing hostility to trans people around the world, transACTIONrefuge is here to help you understand what a relocation to Thailand would look like – (Thailand, a tolerant, safe and welcoming country in Southeast Asia).
We are based in Chiang Mai, a city in northern Thailand with a vibrant community consisting with digital nomads, teachers, artists, working professionals and retirees.
This type of move isn’t easy. We are here to help trans people and their families navigate the pitfalls of moving to an unfamiliar country. We provide help with the tasks of creating your new Thailand life. From the little things like navigating the grocery store, to the big things like considering your visa options. We have regular live Q&A’s where you can meet some of the team and get your questions answered. Come find us on social media. For upcoming dates and times.

Within one week of my first on-camera meeting with members of Trans Action Refuge – actual, real people living in Thailand – I went to having an actionable plan, with a recommended city and a quick familiarity guide, a list of people who could answer a myriad of questions and even show me around the city, contacts who were fluent in Thai, and inroads into an established – and growing – queer and trans community. Within three weeks, and much planning and considerations later, my move out of the United States went from hypothetical and scary to planned out with significant detail. I knew the when/where/how and most importantly, the who, of my move outside the United States.
Members of the team met me personally at the airport.

Trans Action Refuge provided support from the beginning with video calls explaining the pros and cons of Thailand and what to expect when arriving. When I arrived, they picked me up from the airport and had found a place for me to stay, connected me with people to understand the city and all the new apps I would need. They introduced me to other members of the trans community and included me in social events. Within in such a short time, I felt so very welcome and safer and more relaxed than I have in a year.

Transaction Refuge has been a life saver since my move to Chiang Mai. The abundance of knowledge and resources relating to everything from housing, where to buy XYZ, and tips integrating into local culture is incredibly helpful. When they don’t know the answer, they are upfront about that and have reached out to their community to find one.
The best part though is the community aspect. The monthly meet ups have been game changers for finding friends and connections after moving across the world all by myself and leaving everyone I know. I have some really amazing friends thanks to those events, and they’re just a ton of fun!
My only regret is not knowing about this resource before I left, I know it would have made the jump a lot less scary, but so grateful that I eventually found them.
